The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), a Federal law, requires that Newfield Central School District, with certain exceptions, obtain your written consent prior to the disclosure of personally identifiable information from your child’s education records. However, Newfield Central School District may disclose appropriately designated “directory information” without written consent, unless you have advised the Newfield Central School District to the contrary in accordance with Newfield Central School District procedures. The primary purpose of directory information is to allow the Newfield Central School District to include information from your child’s education records in certain school publications. Examples include: • A playbill, showing your student’s role in a drama production; • The annual yearbook; • Honor roll or other recognition lists; • Graduation programs; and • Sports activity sheets, such as for wrestling, showing weight and height of team members. Directory information, which is information that is generally not considered harmful or an invasion of privacy if released, can also be disclosed to outside organizations without a parent’s prior written consent. Outside organizations include, but are not limited to, companies that manufacture class rings or publish yearbooks. In addition, two federal laws require local educational agencies (LEAs) receiving assistance under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, as amended (ESEA) to provide military recruiters, upon request, with the following information – names, addresses and telephone listings – unless parents have advised the LEA that they do not want their student’s information disclosed without their prior written consent. [Note: These laws are Section 9528 of the ESEA (20 U.S.C. § 7908) and 10 U.S.C. § 503(c).] If you do not want Newfield Central School District to disclose any or all of the types of information designated below as directory information from your child’s education records without your prior written consent, please indicate this wish by checking "Do Not Include my Child's Directory Information" in the question below. Students Name Address Telephone listing Electronic mail address Photograph Date and place of birth Major field of study Dates of attendance Grade level Participation in officially recognized activities and sports Weight and height of members of athletic teams Degrees, honors, and awards received Please Note: You must complete this form every year for each student that attends Newfield Central School District. Good morning! Newfield CSD is excited to welcome Supaman this Friday, September 15 to visit with Elementary and Secondary students as part of our First 20 Days initiative. NCSD’s First 20 Days is designed to kickstart the academic year on a positive note. The primary focus is to establish a strong foundation for learning, build a positive classroom community, and set clear expectations for students. The first 20 days will work toward ensuring that students feel welcome, engaged, and motivated to learn. Supaman comes to us from Billings Montana and is a champion Fancy Dancer and hip hop artist. Supaman (Chris Take the Gun Parrish) is a child of parents who struggled with alcoholism and lost his father to the disease. He spent part of his childhood in foster care and was later raised by his mother. He began DJing in the 90's and has danced since fourth grade. Supaman brings a message of hope, kindness and Good Medicine! We are very excited to welcome him on Friday and hope you will ask your student(s) about their time with him.

Tomorrow we are one week from the opening of the 23-24 school year. We wanted to take a moment to remind everyone to locate and dust off their school Chromebooks, make sure they are charged, and attempt to login before the first day of school. Last year we had 100% of the devices that went home for the summer return to campus! That is a statistic we are very proud of and hope to see again this fall. Devices that were left for the summer will be available for students on the first day. Please be aware that parents/caregivers may be charged for damaged or lost devices.
