DIGNITY FOR ALL STUDENTS ACT (DASA)
NYS's Dignity for All Students Act took effect on July 1, 2012. The goal of the Dignity Act is to provide students a school environment that is safe, supportive and free from discrimination, intimidation, taunting, harassment and bullying on school property, on a school bus, and at all school functions. The new law calls for for each school to appoint a Dignity Act Coordinator who is trained to address issues in areas protected by the law. The Dignity Act Coordinators at Newfield CSD are the principals of each school. Names and contact information is listed below:

The School District is committed to protecting the privacy and security of student, teacher, and principal data. In accordance with Education Law § 2-d, the District wishes to inform the school community of the following:
A student’s personally identifiable information cannot be sold or released for any commercial purposes.
Parents have the right to inspect and review the complete contents of their child’s education record.
State and federal laws protect the confidentiality of personally identifiable information, and safeguards associated with industry standards and best practices, including but not limited to, encryption, firewalls, and password protection, must be in place when data is stored or transferred.
A complete list of all student data elements collected by the State will be available for public review at a later date.
Parents have the right to have complaints about possible breaches of student data addressed. More information about where to address those complaints will be provided at a later date by the New York State Education Department.

ANNUAL PROFESSIONAL PERFORMANCE REVIEWS (APPR)
In accordance with Section 3012-c of the Education Law, regarding the Annual Professional Performance Reviews (APPR) of teachers and principals, the District is obligated to release the individual composite effectiveness scores and final ratings of teachers and principals. Parent/legal guardians may request such information for the principal of the school building and teachers to which the student is assigned for the current school year. Only final data will be disclosed. Parents/legal guardians wishing to obtain such data must make a written request to the appointed school official. The identity of parents/legal guardians will be verified and the appointed school official may only communicate the data verbally. ACADEMIC INTERVENTION SERVICES
In July, the Board of Regents recognized that the change in 3-8 State Assessments to measure the Common Core Learning Standards would probably result in a lower percentage of students achieving proficiency. In recognition of this change in the baseline, the Board of Regents approved an amendment to the regulation for the current school year. The amendment changes the requirement for schools to provide Academic Intervention Services from a performance level (1-4) to a scale score specific to each grade and subject.

According to the regulations, students scoring at or below the listed scale score must be provided with Academic Intervention Services by the district. Please note that state test scores are only one of several criteria our teachers use to determine which students are eligible for AIS.
Newfield Central Schools has a BOE adopted a Response to Intervention Plan (RtI) that addresses the different criteria for entering and exiting Academic Intervention Services. We will continue to follow our RtI Plan with consideration of the scale scores that the Regents set as thresholds.

FIRE INSPECTION NOTICE
Notice is hereby given that the annual inspection for the 2023-24 school year of the school buildings of the Newfield Central School District for fire hazards which might endanger the lives of students, teachers and employees therein, has been completed and the report thereof is available at the Newfield Central School District Office for inspection by all interested persons.
