The Special Education Department at Newfield Schools offers a number of services to our Students with Disabilities.

Newfield offers Integrated Co-Taught classrooms in grades K-8.  Within the Elementary School, the Integrated Co-Taught classroom houses the Regular Education teacher, the Special Education teacher and a full time classroom Aide.  This model is in place for the whole school day.  At the Middle School, the Integrated Co-Teaching model is utilized for English and Math for grades 6,7 and 8.  Classroom Aides support students in Science, Social Studies and other elective classrooms.  Finally, at the High School level, there will be English and Math classes where the Special Education teachers will provide academic support either through a Consultant or Co-Taught model.  The High School also offers Aide support for students in a variety of identified classrooms.

Newfield is also very fortunate to have 2 full time Social Workers on staff.  They meet with students K-12 not only to address needs identified on student's IEPs but also to assist all students who are in crisis or who need social/emotional support.

Housed at the Elementary School are two Speech Pathologist.  They service students throughout the district.  Their services are not just for articulation, but also for language development.  It is not uncommon to see one of our speech pathologist within a classroom helping a student making direct connection between skills taught in the therapy room and real life classroom tasks.

Newfield is proud of our Special Education teachers and staff.  Our teachers work very hard to meet the needs of all students.  We have a Special Education teacher for every grade level K-5, four Special Education teachers at the Middle School and three Special Education teachers at the high school level.  We also have Aides which meet IEP and classroom needs at all levels.

At times, certain students need programs and services that we do not provide within district.  Newfield utilizes TST BOCES, GST BOCES, Rackers, George Junior Republic and a wide variety of agencies in Tompkins County to provide programs and services.  As a Special Education Department, we are in constant communication with many agencies to explore and locate the best match for every Newfield student.

Newfield provides a rich education to our Students with Disabilities.  It is our goal that all students will graduate with a diploma and be career and college ready.  As a department, we are continuously training and developing our professional craft so all students reach this goal.
