Newfield Central School District


 
The Newfield Central School District has one elementary (PK-5), one middle (6-8) and one high (9-12) school. The day begins academic programs for grades K-12. We offer enrichment opportunities in music and art as well as dual-enrollment (college and high school credit) courses at the high school. After school daycare is provided for elementary students until 6:00 pm. A variety of sports activities and extra curricular activities are available for middle and high school students.

The district includes the town of Newfield, and portions of Spencer, VanEtten, Danby, Enfield, and Ithaca.

Fun Facts
The original schools in the Newfield area were one-room schoolhouses founded in 1812. These were joined and organized into the Newfield Central School District on June 1, 1938.

The District is located primarily in the Town of Newfield in Tompkins County, New York. The School District is approximately five miles south of the City of Ithaca and covers an area of approximately 59 square miles.

The School District is serviced primarily by Route 13 which runs through the School District and provides access to Route 17 to the south, and Route 81 to the east. The Tompkins County Transit Authority (“Tomtran”) provides regular bus service through the School District

The School District is primarily a rural area with residents commuting within Tompkins County for employment. The largest employers in Tompkins County are Cornell University, Borg Warner, the Ithaca City School District, CBORD, and Axiohm.

Higher education is available nearby at Cornell University, Ithaca College and several two-year community colleges within an hour’s drive.
