On Friday, October 30th, eleven juniors and one senior were inducted into the Newfield High School chapter of the National Honor Society.  These students were selected on the basis their academic average, their involvement in school and community service, and their leadership qualities.

Students, parents, faculty, and administration were all present for the annual ceremony, which was held in the Vince Aiosa Auditorium.  A guest speaker and member of the society, Heather Rae Heigel, who graduated from Newfield in 2008, gave a short speech outlining the importance in her own life of the four principles of the National Honor Society: Character, Scholarship, Leadership and Service.   Heather was introduced by her brother Elisha Ford, current Vice-President of the NHS.

Other current officeholders and members of the NHS involved in leading the ceremony were President Mackenzie Green, Treasurer Miranda Hollenbeck, Secretary Zozha TenWolde, Bailey Olmstead and Nataliya Yalanzhi.

After the ceremony, the new members of the NHS were invited to stay for refreshments, pictures, and conversation with their parents and others in the school community.  Co-advisers Rick Pawlewicz and Peter Pfarrer were enthusiastic about the ceremony and the upcoming year.  “This is a great group of students,” Pawlewicz said.  “They have a lot to give, and we expect a lot from them,” added Pfarrer.
