NCSD Reopening Plans (anticipated using current guidelines)

The administrators, faculty and staff have been working together to create a safe and healthy learning environment for all people at Newfield.  We want our faculty and staff to be safe and we want our students and families to be safe.  In doing so, we have devised a reopening plan in accordance with New York State Education Department (NYSED) and the Governor’s office guidelines.  This plan is also guided by the Department of Health, (DOH) guidelines.  There are several pieces to the puzzle.  The links are posted on the Newfield CSD website for you to view.

Below are the educational plans we as a faculty and staff agreed on to this point.  Within these plans there are several pieces we will need to put together prior to starting in September.  This plan will also have the ability to change as the directives from the state may change at any given moment or we as a district may see fit to adjust.  Please know the full document, when complete, will be accessible on our website.  This plan will be submitted to NYSED and the DOH on July 31, 2020.

Educational Plans:

At the Elementary Level K-5, students will be placed into a cohort with attention to grouping family units together.  Students will then be placed into an AM or PM schedule for their weekly attendance.

7:40- Am Students will be released off of the buses (health checks and grab and go breakfast)

8:00- Instruction would begin

ELA-50min. block

MATH-50min. block

SS/Science-30min.

10:20-Dismissal

While students are at home they would be virtually attending PE, Art, Music, Library, and other Encore Subjects.  (Office hours for students to check in will be available)

Title I services would also be offered through a virtual format.

10:25-12:10- Teaching staff will have their Plan, prep/team meetings, and duty-free lunch

(During this transition time classrooms will be disinfected by custodial staff)

12:10-PM - Students will be released off of the buses (health checks and grab and go lunch)

12:30- Instruction would begin

ELA-50min block

MATH-50min block

SS/Science-30min

2:55-Dismissal

While students are at home they would be virtually attending PE, Art, Music, Library, and other Encore Subjects.  (Office hours for students to check in will be available)

Title I services would also be offered through a virtual format.

High School/MiddleSchool Schedule

Students will be split into two cohorts, Cohort 1 and Cohort 2.

Cohort 1 will attend two consecutive days and follow their regular A and B day schedule. They will be given independent assignments and will check in with teachers in the Google classroom on the days they are not present for face to face instruction. It is imperative that they check in via Google classroom, as it will be our mechanism for taking attendance and ensure accountability for all.

Cohort 2 will then attend two consecutive days and follow their A and B day schedule. They will be given independent assignments and will check in with teachers in the Google classroom on the days they are not present for face to face instruction. It is imperative that they check in via Google classroom, as it will be our mechanism for taking attendance and ensure accountability for all. There will be one day of remote learning for all students. On this day teachers will provide virtual office hours, individual online academic support, and social emotional support as needed.

Other Considerations:

Pre-K - Due to NYSED not guaranteeing funding and due to no applications coming out until December, 2020, (NYSED document pages 91-96).  I am sad to say, we will not be starting September with a Pre-K program.  We are a fully grant funded program with no assurances.

Before and After school programs or during the day daycare – Can or should we provide for any extra child care supervision due to extending the exposure of students to others, as safety is first and foremost?  Please refer to pages 1-4 in the DOH guidelines.

Athletics – Athletics is being determined by the NYS Public High School Athletic Association and we will not have any say in those decisions.

Extracurricular Activities - Can or should we expose advisors and students to extended activities?  Can we look at certain extracurricular's to run and possibly modify how they would be run?

Please know these are all areas we see as important but we have to make sure we can maintain a program within the given guidelines.  This is a very difficult time for all.  Please be a part of the solution and help us by joining me next Monday at 3:00 so we can all create a safe, healthy and positive environment at Newfield CSD.
