Pearson Data BreachThe Central New York Regional Information Center (CNYRIC) alerted us (8/27/19) of a national data breach compromising student directory information (student names, date of birth, school ID number, and, in some cases, email addresses) stored in AIMS Web from 2004 - 2014. The breach was discovered by the FBI and stems from an attack against education software developer Pearson. The attack was focused specifically on Pearson alone; no school districts - including Newfield - suffered any cyber security breach of information internally. AIMS Web was developed by Pearson and used at Newfield Elementary School as a way to measure student academic progress throughout the year.
The CNYRIC is developing a web link for you to access for more information. Once that site is available we will share it with you. The contact at CNYRIC is Pam Mazzaferro at (315) 433-8426. Feel free to reach out to Dr. Cheryl Thomas or Cathy Griggs with any questions.
