NYSED Reviewing Newfield Special Education Program

The New York State Education Department's Office of Special Education has initiated a Special Education Programs and Services Focused Review in the Newfield Central School District during the 2016-2017 school year.  The purpose of this review is to assess the district's compliance with selected federal and State laws and regulations governing the education of students with disabilities. This type of review is conducted in 2-3 school districts in the Region every year as part of the State’s quality control and does not mean that the District has done anything wrong or that any complaints have been filed. We have not had this type of review since the mid-1990s so it is our turn again!
The review will be conducted by the Special Education Quality Assurance (SEQA) Central Regional Office.  The review process will involve a review of school records of a representative sample of students with disabilities, classroom visitations and surveys.  In addition, meetings of the committee on special education will be observed.  Further information may be obtained by contacting the SEQA Central Regional Office at (315) 428-4556 and/or by contacting Newfield Central School District at (607) 564-9955 x 1026.
