Ella Mushatt, a student at Newfield High School, has been recognized with the Distinguished Youth Award for her outstanding commitment to leadership, community service, and agriculture.

Mushatt is pursuing Animal Science through TST BOCES, where she continues to develop the knowledge and technical skills needed for a future in animal care and agriculture. Her dedication to academics and leadership has earned her membership in both the National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society. She is also actively involved in FFA, 4-H, Sources of Strength, NYS Agriculture and Animal Leaders, and ACE. Additionally, she has served as Treasurer for the Class of 2027 since ninth grade.

Beyond the classroom, Mushatt has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to caring for animals and supporting her community. Since 2023, she has worked at Stoney Brook Farm in Newfield, helping manage and care for 21 horses. Her responsibilities include daily farm chores, animal care, scheduling, and providing assistance whenever needed. She has also served as a summer camp counselor and riding instructor, helping riders of varying experience levels build their skills and confidence while prioritizing safety.

Mushatt's dedication to agriculture extends to volunteer work throughout her community. She has assisted with livestock care, animal vaccinations, hoof trimming, and general farm maintenance. During hay harvest, she has helped unload trailers, check moisture levels, direct equipment, and repair broken hay wagons.

Through her Animal Science education, Mushatt has gained valuable hands-on experience in animal health assessments, monitoring vital signs, wound care, medication administration, livestock handling, sanitation, and animal restraint. She has also earned her FAMACHA certification.

While her accomplishments are impressive, Mushatt's commitment to leadership and service is what truly distinguishes her. She consistently demonstrates accountability, adaptability, teamwork, and critical thinking, whether caring for animals, mentoring younger riders, volunteering her time, or stepping up when others need help.

The Distinguished Youth Award recognizes the positive impact young people make through their dedication, leadership, and service. Mushatt exemplifies these qualities through her continued involvement in school, agriculture, and her community.

Her recognition celebrates not only what she has already accomplished but also the promising future she is building through her education, hard work, and passion for animal care and agriculture.
