YOUNG MEN'S CHORAL FESTIVAL

Six of Newfield’s students participated in the Mansfield University Young Men’s Choral Festival on October 31st, 2014, thanks to the encouragement and direction of their music teacher Mr. Alex MacDonald.  The Young Men’s Choral Festival is a daylong festival that promotes singing for young men in grades 7-9. Held at Mansfield University, the entire festival is filled with music designed for the young male vocal ensemble and is aimed at promoting singing without fear of stigma or negative peer pressure. Newfield’s young men joined over 150 peers from across New York and Pennsylvania to rehearse in a men’s chorus under guest conductor Stephen Fischer. After a day of rehearsals and master classes, the men put on a superb concert for the public. The concert consisted of Young Men’s Chorus (including Newfield’s finest young male singers), the Mansfield University Men’s Choir, and the Keystone State Boys Choir, culminating in a combined finale of over 250 male singers. Newfield’s representatives were eighth graders Cole Burun, Slavik Yalanzhi, Thomas Birch, and Phillip Linnik, as well as seventh graders Patrick Payne and Cameron White.
