SCHOOL SAFETY AWARD
Newfield Central School District received the Utica National Insurance Group’s highest “School Safety Excellence Award” for 2014. This is the fourth consecutive year Newfield Central School District has achieved this award. Dr. Cheryl Thomas, Superintendent, accepted the award on behalf of the school district on Thursday morning, April 3rd.
“We work very hard to create and maintain and safe and healthy environment for our students and staff,” said Dr. Thomas. “In addition to having a safety plan in place, we offer multiple days of training and run several drills throughout the year for a variety of scenarios.”
School districts can earn a meritorious distinction by meeting specific criteria to enhance overall safety. Categories covered include bullying prevention programs, playground safety and other areas, and are measured using specific, quantifiable surveys.
“Safety and health concerns continue to be a priority in our school districts,” explained Mark Aquino, regional manager in Utica National’s risk management department. “Districts that go ‘above and beyond’ to provide a safe, healthy and focused culture for learning are to be applauded, and we’re pleased to count Newfield Central School District among them.”
