BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

“Be Our Guest” for “a tale as old as time” as Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” graces the Newfield High School stage this April.  This classic tale features Belle (Savanna Scott) – a bright, independent girl from a “poor provincial town” – who spends her days helping Maurice, her eccentric inventor father (Thomas Birch), dodging marriage proposals from the arrogant local heart-throb, Gaston (Nolan Ruocco), and reading every book she can get her hands on. Like the adventures in her books, Belle dreams of “far-off places, daring sword fights, magic spells, a prince in disguise…” – and, adventure is just what Belle gets when she ventures into an old castle in search of her father. There, she becomes the prisoner of a miserable, lonesome Beast (Frank Reilly). Once a “spoiled, selfish and unkind” Prince, he and his staff were placed under a spell that could only be reversed if the Beast learned “to love another and earn their love in return.” While imprisoned, Belle befriends the enchanted staff, including Lumiere (Jake Brown), Cogsworth (Max Grochocinski), Mrs. Potts (Lucaya Clarey), Chip (Patrick Payne), Babette (Caitlin Howell), and Madame de la Grande Bouche (Sophia Mras). With their help, Belle learns to see beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realizes that true beauty is found within. Not even the devious plans of pompous Gaston, his witty sidekick Lefou (Nick Mras) and the callous Monsieur D’Arque (Camryn Olmstead) can change the course of true love.

Presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI), Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” is sure to delight children of all ages. The cast, crew, pit orchestra, and production team are excited to share this magical tale with the Newfield community in the Vincent Aiosa Auditorium (Newfield High School) on the following dates and times:  Friday, April 6th (7 P.M.); Saturday, April 7th (4 P.M.); Friday, April 13th (7 P.M.); and, Saturday, April 14th (4 P.M.).  Ticket prices are $5 (students/senior citizens) and $8 (adults). “Certain as the sun, rising in the east” this musical promises an evening of quality entertainment for the whole family.
