Hello!

This  is Barb Talbot's home page.

I will be teaching reading this year 2017-2018, grades 4,5,6,7,8,9,and 10!    If you want to reach me, you can dial the school's number ( 607-564-9955) and extension 1212.    I will be happy to meet with you and discuss any concerns you have.

Each student I work with will have different specific skills and goals to reach.  I will be using the Wilson reading system to teach .  The Wilson Readying System was originally written for adults with dyslexia.  It directly and systematically teaches students how to fluently and accurately decode.  The program is very interactive and multisensory.  With the tools provided in the program,  the students are taught step by step to understand the phonological processing which helps them not only read, but also to spell words that fall in  the phonological patterns as presented.   There are many "confusable" words- words that do not follow a clear "rule based" reason for their spelling.  These must be memorized, at least the most common of the first 300 words.

I have been teaching now for 31 years.  I have used a wide variety of reading programs.    The Wilson program is one that I have been trained in, and have used for 6 years now.  I feel confident that it's approach can make a difference  for students who have struggled in the past with their reading skills.  I am pleased that the district is determined to offer to our challenged students a good reading program .  My Gusty Goal for this year is to  provide instruction to improve all my student's reading levels more than a year.  What Mountain or Goal do you have to climb?
