RED PAW SENDOFF: The elementary school  had its thank you send-off with the Cornell Hockey Red Paw Program volunteers. Some of these athletes have volunteered every semester for the past four years!!  Students and hockey players had a few rounds of kickball, followed by a special presentation at the May PBIS assembly. The rising-senior goalie, Hayden Stewart, gave a motivational speech to the kids about positive attitude, perseverance and helping others. It was wonderful! more >>
MAY TEACHER OF THE MONTH: Congratulations to Jill Green for being selected as teacher of the month for May. Mrs. Green has some amazing qualities, but her greatest quality may be her enormous heart. Every day she shows her students (and team members) that she cares about them. It’s the reason so many of her former students come to visit her whenever they can. FESTIVE TESTING: Thanks to Mrs. Millier, the testing atmosphere at the elementary school was very festive. She brought in balloons and put them throughout the hallways with the message, “You Rock!” The sixth grade team:  Mr. Gavurnik, Mrs. Edwards, Mrs. Hawke, Mrs. Ching and Mr. Holm, wore neon during the ELA state testing  in order to remind students to highlight the text evidence! APRIL TEACHER OF THE MONTH: We are pleased to announce Ms. Alison Grunder as our Teacher of the Month for April 2017.  Ms. Grunder has strived this year to ensure students around the building learn how to avoid destructive decision making.  She is especially adamant about incorporating this philosophy into her coaching of volleyball and indoor track.  Ultimately, her efforts will culminate this month with a SADD pledge drive and guest speaker who will discuss the perils of distracted driving.  Congratulations ... more >>

MARCH TEACHER OF THE MONTH: Ms. Hannah Birdsall is the recipient of the Teacher of the Month Award for March. Ms. Birdsall expects all students to do well and has implemented creative ideas to help them achieve their potential. Although Ms. Birdsall is new to us this year, she has blended well with the rest of the team. She quickly recognizes needs and finds a solution without having to be told what to do. FEBRUARY TEACHER OF THE MONTH: The prestigious Teacher of the Month Award goes to Mrs. Suzie Taylor for February. Mrs. Taylor is very involved in all aspects of the school community. She is a member of the PTA and has been a mentor for new teachers. Mrs. Taylor took up the challenge to integrate her class with the Racker Center class this year and has persevered through many obstacles. JANUARY TEACHER OF THE MONTH:   We are delighted to announce that Ms. Liz Goodwin was selected as Teacher of the Month for January 2017. Ms. Goodwin has revitalized the CCR Lab at the high school. She is an excellent collaborator, reaching out to all of the teachers in order to keep everything up-to-date in the lab. Her vision and passion for learning is passed along to her students every day. NYSED Reviewing Newfield Special Education Program: The New York State Education Department's Office of Special Education has initiated a Special Education Programs and Services Focused Review in the Newfield Central School District during the 2016-2017 school year.  The purpose of this review is to assess the district's compliance with selected federal and State laws and regulations governing the education of students with disabilities. DECEMBER TEACHER OF THE MONTH: The Administrative Team would like to recognize Mrs. Colleen Markle as teacher of the month for December. Mrs. Markle revamped the advisory program to give students the opportunity to start off on the right foot this year. She works with students during Lunch Bunch to help them catch up in their school work and stay ahead. She reaches out to outside agencies to support families and students in crisis. FIRST GRADE FALL FESTIVAL: First Graders had a great time at the Fall Festival this year. Some of the activities they enjoyed were: relay races, face painting, pin the eyes on the monster and donuts on a string. A BIG thank you to the High School Students and parent volunteers who helped with the festival this year. We couldn’t have done it without them! more >>
OPERATION GRATITUDE: Ms. Miller’s 2 nd grade class has been very busy this month putting together a care package for deployed troops as part of the Operation Gratitude Program.  It is an organization that collects excess Halloween candy and distributes it to active troops, Veterans, new recruits and wounded soldiers. MS RED RIBBON WEEK: The Middle School celebrated Red Ribbon Week, which is an alcohol, tobacco, and other drug and violence prevention awareness campaign, on October 24 th  – 28 th .  The students were able to pledge to be drug, alcohol and tobacco free by adding their names to the banner and receiving a prize.  The week also had various themed dress-up days including, "don’t get mixed up in drugs” where students wore mix and match clothing and, "voting for my future to be ... more >>
NEWFIELD HIGH SCHOOL NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY ADDS NEW MEMBERS: The Newfield High School National Honor Society inducted sixteen new members on October 28, 2016. The ceremony was led by  Eric Allen, co-president and included recognition of the candidates, a keynote address by alumni Kayla Scott, and an explanation of the four pillars of the honor society – character, service, leadership, and scholarship.
